Confession

This post has been coming for a long time, but I promised both No 1. and myself that I’d keep it short and simple. So here’s the thing.

What you know about me: I’m a writer.

What you may also know about me: I’m a daughter, granddaughter, wife, cousin, aunt, and a friend.

What you probably don’t know about me: I’m also a mother.

When I first started writing and it looked like this might turn into a career, No 1. agreed to support me and my writing 100%. He has never fallen down on that promise. In return, I promised to keep our children completely out of the whole thing. Because if the world is a scary place, the internet is a virtual horror story. At least, it can be. So, until now, I’ve never mentioned having children online.

My personal friends know about my kids. My agent and editor know. Many of my other professional colleagues know.

For their safety and to preserve our privacy, you will never see pictures of my children’s faces online. You will never see their real names. But they’re getting older now, and they want to officially exist. I want to be able to take pride in them in public.

So, public, meet Melody and Maestro. They’re both budding musicians and big readers. They’re both too young to use their real names online. They are the most important things in my life.

Now you know.

Note: My children will not take over my blog posts, just as my cats haven’t. I make no such promises about my fictional characters.
